Contemporary Dance: Confluence

For this project from the 3rd year of my degree, we had to design costumes for one of a selection of contemporary dances. I chose to design for Confluence choreographed by Tsai Huichen, which can be watched here. I decided that my costumes should embody the qualities of moving water, its translucency, flowing movement, colours and patterns. I experimented with aerial photography of rivers, the work artist of Maggie Ayres, and my own print designs on jersey and organza of different translucencies, using layers to emulate light through moving water. I was also inspired by water gods, goddesses, nymphs and naiads from Classical and Chinese mythology. 2017.
