Circus Dance: Peck Peck (The Birds)

For this project from the 1st year of my degree, we had to design costumes for pairs of circus performers, in a dance piece recreating shots from Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds. My first set of designs used traditional contemporary dance garments, with pleated fabric inspired by Indian dace costumes. The colours, fabric texture, print and placing of the pleated sections were intended to imitate birds. For the second set of designs, I was directed to go for a ‘sleazy circus’ feel and so I reinterpreted traditional circus costumes for modern dance wear. 2015.
