Ballet: Ashton’s The Dream

For the final project of my Textile Foundation I chose to design and make a costume for a character from Frederick Ashton’s The Dream. As the ballet is based on A Midsummer Night’s Dream by William Shakespeare, I decided to return the costumes to an Elizabethan setting. I ended up concentrating on the fairies, developing repeat patterns inspired by 16th century textiles. I hand printed and constructed a romantic tutu dress for the fairy Moth, which was displayed in the Morley Gallery. 2014.
