To develop my sewing skills I made a pair of 18th century stays, adapting a pattern from Corsets and Crinolines by Norah Waugh. The pattern originated from Diderot’s L’Encyclopedie “Tailleur de Corps”, from 1776. I dyed the linen myself to get the right shade of orange I wanted. I also made a linen shift to go underneath, which I sewed entirely by hand. I am selling the stays on my Etsy shop BelphoebeDesigns.
